Hi, my name is Yasar Ozcelik, and I am a fully registered tour guide from the Istanbul Aydin University. Of having grown up exploring and playing on the streets around the family business in Sultanahmet, the old historical part of Istanbul. I always enjoyed taking my friends to these exciting new places ı would discover.
I realized that there were so many historical places and hidden treasures that the tourists were not seeing. I was disappointed that no one seemed to offer to excite off the beaten track tours. Local history and photography is a passion that ı would like to share with you. This is my inspiration to create these moving historical tours by a friendly local.

OUR ITINERARY FOR THE DAY
The tour starts at 10.00am we begin behind the Grand Bazaar and finishes in Balat (Golden Horn ). It takes approximately five hours of leisurely walking.

BUYUK VALIDE HAN ( GREAT MOTHER INN )
Built in 1651, This han is an old ottoman in that accommodated traveling merchants from all over the world. It stored and traded the Oriental and European wares from the wooden ships moored in the golden horn. For the best photos of Istanbul, this secret rooftop with views of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, the Galata Tower, the Bosphorus.


SULEYMANIYE MOSQUE
The Kulliye ( the complex ) was built between 1550-1557. By order of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificient by the great Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan. It is formed on the third hill of Istanbul. The Complex includes a hospital, a library, a madrasa (school) a kitchen and a Turkish bath. It is the largest mosque in Istanbul.

KUCUK MUSTAFA PASA HAMAMI
Built in 1477, it’s the largest Turkish bath in Istanbul. It has recently been restored and is currently being used as an exhibition gallery.


THE PATRIARCHAL CHURCH OF ST. GEORGE
This Church has been affiliated with the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate since the 6th century. It houses mosaics and sacred relics that date from the Byzantine Period.


FENER GREEK ORTHODOX HIGH SCHOOL
Designed by the greek ottoman architect Constantinos Dimadis, built between 1881-1883 an eclectic mix of different styles. It is often referred to as (the 5th most massive castle on Europe side) because of its castle-like shape.

BALAT – OUTDOOR HERBAL TEA STOP

AHRIDA SYNAGOGUE
It is one of the oldest synagogues in Istanbul. Located in Balat, It was built by Romaniotes (Greek Jews ) from the city of Ohrid. Balat area was once a thriving Jewish quarter in the town After Israel was established most moved to Israel.
