Description

Immerse in Istanbul's UNESCO-listed Old City and visit the highlights of the ancient city of Constantinople on this 9-hour, small-group sightseeing tour led by an art historian. Marvel at the dome of the Hagia Sophia, descend into the bowels of the Basilica Cistern (from Out Side), and explore the Roman-era Hippodrome. After a 3-course Turkish lunch, admire the Blue Mosque (The Blue Mosque will be close for the renovation from 01th March to 15th May 2018.Our guide will translate from out side to Blue Mosque.) and Topkapi Palace, and brave the chaos of the Grand Bazaar.

Your art historian guide will collect you from your central Istanbul hotel between 7:30am and 8:15am, and accompany you to Sultanahmet in climate-controlled vehicle to start the tour at 8:30am. You'll begin by discovering the Old City's Roman and Byzantine heritage.

Your first stop is the Hagia Sophia, a 6th-century Byzantine church with towering dome and glorious mosaics that's been both mosque and museum over the years. Next, explore a more pragmatic piece of Byzantine architecture, the Basilica Cistern, an underground reservoir whose gloomy colonnades were a set piece in Dan Brown's Inferno. Finally, visit the ruins of the ancient Hippodrome, once the epicenter of both politics and entertainment as partisan crowds roared for their favorite team.

Savor a delicious, 3-course Turkish lunch at a local restaurant before your guide transports you to the Ottoman era. Visit the 17th-century Blue Mosque, with its six slender minarets and hand-crafted Iznik tiles. Then explore Topkapi Palace, home to the sultans, their wives, their harem, and their eunuchs, for centuries: please note that tickets to the Harem and the Treasury incur an additional charge and may not always be available.

Finally, wrap up the day by exploring the warren of colorful stalls and shops that make up the ancient Grand Bazaar. Haggle for souvenirs, from carpets to brass work, or simply soak up the atmosphere, before you're transferred back to your hotel around 5:30pm.
